All you see of this Swamp Cypress at the Berlin Botanical Garden is its “knees,” which help the tree get oxygen in swampy soil. Both Marion and the Taxodium have roots in the southern US. I did this in a workshop at El Mono de la Tinta in Madrid in the technique “Plancha Perdida” in which you use one block of wood for all the colors (instead of separate blocks for each) and cut away more and more each time.
